8th International Course. “AN UPDATE ON FACIAL PARALYSIS”
We are pleased to announce the 8th International Course “An Update on Facial Paralysis”, which will be held from 10th to 12th February 2027 at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid.
The main objective of this course is to present the experience of the Facial Paralysis Unit at La Paz University Hospital, a multidisciplinary unit with more than two decades of experience in the comprehensive management of facial paralysis. The scientific programme will address the most up-to-date and controversial aspects of facial paralysis, covering both surgical and non-surgical management through an evidence-based and multidisciplinary approach.
Over the years, this course has established itself as one of the leading international forums for education and exchange of knowledge in the field of facial paralysis. During three days, participants will explore the full spectrum of facial paralysis management, from fundamental concepts to advanced surgical and rehabilitative techniques, through didactic lectures, expert panel discussions, surgical video workshops, live rehabilitation demonstrations, and interactive clinical case sessions.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Tessa Hadlock and Ms. Catriona Neville as members of our International Faculty, whose extensive expertise and experience will provide an outstanding contribution to this edition of the course.
The Facial Paralysis Unit was established at La Paz University Hospital as a joint initiative of the Departments of Otolaryngology, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Rehabilitation, with the aim of providing a truly multidisciplinary approach to patients with complex facial paralysis. Over time, the Departments of Ophthalmology, Neurophysiology, Neurosurgery, and Neuroradiology joined the initiative, creating a comprehensive team covering the different aspects of facial nerve disorders. For more than two decades, the Unit has continued to develop this multidisciplinary model, integrating clinical care, rehabilitation, surgery, teaching, and research.
The previous edition of the course, the 7th International Course on Facial Paralysis, was held as the official pre-congress workshop of the 15th International Facial Nerve Symposium (IFNS 2025), the world’s leading meeting dedicated to facial nerve disorders. IFNS 2025 took place in Madrid in September 2025, chaired by Prof. Luis Lassaletta and Prof. Javier Gavilán,and brought together more than 600 specialists from around the world, representing the highest attendance in the history of the International Facial Nerve Symposium. The success of that meeting reinforced our commitment to continuing to provide a forum for high-level education, multidisciplinary discussion, and international collaboration in the field of facial paralysis.
We warmly invite you to join us in Madrid for three days of learning, discussion, and exchange of experience. Our aim is not only to provide an up-to-date and practical overview of facial paralysis management, but also to create an interactive environment in which participants can share ideas, discuss challenging cases, and learn directly from colleagues from different specialties and countries.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to La Paz University Hospital in February 2027.
